What do you want to work out?

Stacked discounts apply one after the other, so 20% then 10% is 28% off, not 30%.

Enter the original price and at least one discount.

How to calculate a discount, tip, or split

  1. Pick "Sale price" to work out a discount, or "Tip and split" for a restaurant bill.
  2. For a sale, enter the original price and one to three discounts, plus tax if it is added at the till.
  3. For a tip, enter the bill, tap a tip percentage or type your own, and set how many people share it.
  4. Read the final amount, how much you save or tip, and each person's share.

Amounts have no currency symbol, so the tool works with any currency. Results are rounded to two decimals for display.

Questions

Are the amounts I type stored or sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, saved, or tracked.

How do I take 20% off a price?

Multiply the price by 0.80. A 20% discount on 80 is 80 × 0.80 = 64, so you save 16. Type the price and 20 in the discount box and the sale price appears.

How do stacked discounts work?

Each discount applies to the price left after the one before it. 20% off and then a further 10% off leaves 0.80 × 0.90 = 72% of the price, which is 28% off in total, not 30%. The order does not change the final price.

Is tax added before or after the discount?

This calculator adds tax after the discount, which is how most shops charge sales tax or VAT. Some places or coupons work differently, so check your receipt if the numbers do not match.

How do I split a bill with a tip?

Switch to "Tip and split", enter the bill, pick a tip percentage, and set the number of people. The tip is added to the bill and the total is divided evenly. Tick the round-up box if you want whole-number shares.
