How to calculate your course grade
- List each grading category from your syllabus with its weight, such as homework 20% or midterm 25%.
- Enter your score in each category you already have. Leave the score empty for work not graded yet.
- Read your current grade, then open the final exam planner.
- Enter the grade you want and the weight of the final to see the score you need.
The planner uses the grade calculated above unless you type your own current grade. Letters shown use the common 90/80/70/60 US cut-offs; your course may differ.
Questions
Are my grades uploaded or saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing leaves your device. Closing the tab clears what you typed.
How is a weighted grade calculated?
Each category score is multiplied by its weight, the results are added up, and the total is divided by the weights that have a score. A 90 in a 40% category and an 80 in a 60% category give (90 × 40 + 80 × 60) ÷ 100 = 84.
How does the "what do I need on the final" part work?
It treats your current grade as covering the rest of the course, so the final is worth the weight you enter and everything else is worth the remainder. The needed score is (target − current × (100 − final weight) ÷ 100) ÷ (final weight ÷ 100).
What if the needed score is over 100%?
Then the target is out of reach with the final alone, unless your teacher offers extra credit. Try a lower target to see what is realistic.
Do the weights have to add up to 100?
No. The current grade only uses categories that have a score, so you can leave the final out of the list and enter its weight in the planner below.
