How to crop, rotate, or flip an image

  1. Choose an image, or drop it onto the box.
  2. Drag the box and its handles to pick the area to keep. Choose a shape such as 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, or 3:2, or type exact pixel values.
  3. Use Rotate and Flip if the picture needs turning or mirroring.
  4. Press Download. The file keeps its original format unless you pick another one.

Common shapes: 1:1 for profile pictures, 4:5 for Instagram portrait posts, 16:9 for video thumbnails and slides, 9:16 for stories and short videos, 3:2 for standard camera photos. GIF, BMP, and AVIF files are saved as PNG because browsers cannot write those formats.

Questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The picture is cropped on a canvas inside your browser tab. It is never sent to a server, so private photos stay on your device.

How do I crop to an exact size?

Type the left, top, width, and height in pixels under the picture. To keep a shape such as 16:9 or 1:1, pick it under "Shape" first; changing the width then updates the height for you.

Will cropping lower the quality?

PNG is saved without any loss. JPG and WebP are compressed again when saved; choose "High" to keep it hard to notice. The crop itself never rescales the pixels.

Can I crop with the keyboard?

Yes. Tab to the crop box, then use the arrow keys to move it and Ctrl or Cmd with the arrow keys to resize it. Hold Shift to move in steps of 10 pixels. You can also type exact values in the number fields.

What happens to photos from a phone that look sideways?

The photo is shown the right way up, using the rotation stored in the file, and saved that way. Use Rotate to turn it further. Photo metadata such as location is not kept in the saved file.
