How to generate fake test data

  1. Build your schema: give each field a name and pick a type such as name, email, date, UUID, or a number range.
  2. Set the number of rows, and a seed if you want repeatable data.
  3. Choose JSON, CSV, SQL INSERT statements, or XML.
  4. Copy the result or download it as a file.

Need only random IDs? Use the UUID Generator. To reshape the output, the Data Converter turns JSON, CSV, YAML, and XML into each other, and the JSON Schema Validator checks generated JSON against a schema.

Questions

Is any of this real data?

No. Every name, email, address, and ID is made up by Faker, an open-source library, and the generator runs in your browser. Some values may look like real ones by chance, so do not use them to contact anyone.

How do I get the same data twice?

Type a number in the Seed box. The same seed, fields, row count, and language always produce the same rows, which is useful for tests and bug reports. Clear the box for different data each time, and press Regenerate for a new set.

How do I load the SQL into my database?

Choose SQL, set the table name, and copy the INSERT statements. They insert up to 100 rows each, use standard quoting that works in PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite, and write text as quoted strings with single quotes doubled. Create the table first.

How many rows can I make?

Up to 10,000 at once. The preview shows the first part of a large result, and Copy and Download give you all of it.

Can I make names in other languages?

Yes. Pick a language in the list and names, cities, streets, and phone numbers follow that locale. Only the language you pick is downloaded.
