How to blur or hide parts of a picture
- Choose an image.
- Pick Blur, Pixelate, or Black out, and a shape: box, oval, or brush.
- Drag over the faces, plates, or text to hide. Use Undo last if you slip.
- Press Download. Use the whole image buttons to blur a full photo, for a background or a thumbnail.
Only Black out is fully irreversible. If you use blur or pixelate for anything private, raise the strength until nothing can be read, and check the result at full zoom before sharing.
Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The blur, pixelation, and black boxes are drawn in your browser tab. The picture is never sent anywhere.
Is blur or pixelate safe for hiding text and faces?
Not always. Blur and pixelate hide detail but keep some of the original information, and with a light setting software can sometimes recover part of it. Black out replaces the pixels with solid black and cannot be reversed. Use black out, or a very high strength, for anything sensitive.
Will the original pixels be inside the saved file?
No. The saved file is a new image made from the changed pixels. The hidden areas are not stored as a separate layer, and metadata such as GPS location is not carried over.
Can I hide an area that is not a rectangle?
Yes. Use the oval for faces, or the brush to paint over any shape, such as a license plate at an angle. Each area can be undone.
Is the saved image full size?
Yes. You draw on a smaller preview, and the saved file is made from the original photo at its full width and height.
