How to make an animated GIF from images
- Choose several images. They become the frames.
- Drag the frames into order and set how long each stays on screen.
- Pick the size, the shape, how to fit pictures, and whether it loops.
- Press Make GIF, check the result, and press Download GIF.
Keep GIFs under about 640 pixels wide and use a handful of frames to keep the file small enough to share. Play forward, then backward makes a smooth bounce from a short sequence.
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. The frames are drawn and the GIF is encoded in a background worker in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
How do I change the speed?
Set the delay in milliseconds for each frame, or enter one value and press Apply to all frames. 100 ms is fast, 500 ms is a slideshow pace. GIF stores time in hundredths of a second, so the smallest useful delay is 20 ms.
Why does my GIF look grainy?
GIF can only show 256 colors in each frame, so photos with smooth gradients may show banding. Smaller sizes and fewer frames also make the file smaller.
Can I save an animated WebP instead?
Not yet. Browsers cannot write animated WebP files, and we have not found a small, permissively licensed encoder for it. GIF works everywhere.
How many frames can I use?
Up to 80. Frames can be different sizes; each one is fitted inside the GIF size, or cropped to fill it.
