How to enlarge an image
- Choose an image.
- Pick a method: AI for the most detail, Classic for speed.
- Choose 2× or 4× and press Enlarge. The AI method shows progress and can be cancelled.
- Drag the slider to compare with the original, pick a format, and press Download.
Try 2× first. It is four times faster than 4× and usually looks cleaner. Save as PNG to avoid adding compression to the enlarged picture. Pictures with transparent areas keep their transparency.
Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The upscaling model runs inside your browser tab. The only downloads are the model and its engine from this site, about 19 MB the first time and cached after that.
What is the difference between the AI and Classic methods?
AI uses the Real-ESRGAN neural network, which redraws fine detail such as edges and textures. It looks better on low-resolution pictures but is slow and can invent detail that was not there. Classic uses Lanczos resampling with sharpening: instant and faithful, but softer.
Why is the AI method slow, and why is there a size limit?
The model runs on your processor, not a server, and every part of the picture takes real work. Pictures up to about 2 megapixels are accepted. For larger ones use Classic, or shrink the picture first.
Does upscaling restore real detail?
No method can recover information that was never captured. The AI method makes a believable guess, which is fine for most photos but not for text, faces you need to identify, or evidence.
How big can the result be?
Up to 64 megapixels, for example 8000 × 8000 pixels. Beyond that most browsers run out of memory, so the tool asks you to use 2× or a smaller picture.
