How to make a passport photo
- Take or choose a front-facing photo with the whole head and shoulders visible.
- Pick the photo size for your country, or enter a custom size.
- Drag and zoom so the top of the head is on the green line and the chin is between the red lines.
- Optionally set a white background, then download the single photo or a print sheet.
Stand in front of a plain wall with even light from the front and no shadows. Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression. Files are saved as JPG at 300 DPI. Always check the rules of the agency you are applying to.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Cropping, the optional background change, and the print sheet all happen in your browser tab. The background model is downloaded from this site, but your photo never leaves your device.
Will my photo be accepted?
The tool gives you the right size, head height guide, and 300 DPI file for the country you choose, but the issuing agency decides. Rules about expression, glasses, lighting, shadows, and the date of the photo also apply. Check the official requirements before you print.
Which countries are included?
United States (2 × 2 in), United Kingdom, EU / Schengen, Canada, India, China, Japan, and Australia, plus a custom size in millimetres for anything else, such as a visa or work permit form.
How do I print the photos?
Download the print sheet for 4 × 6 in, 10 × 15 cm, or A4 paper, then print it at 100% (actual size) on photo paper or at a photo lab. The sheet repeats the photo as many times as fit, with thin cut lines you can turn off.
How does the white background work?
A small AI model finds the person and the tool fills the rest with white, light grey, or light blue. It works best on a plain background with even light. Zoom into the preview and check the hair and shoulders; if the edge looks rough, retake the photo against a plain wall.
