How to edit the bookmarks of a PDF

  1. Choose a PDF. Any bookmarks it already has appear in the list.
  2. Edit a title or page number. A preview shows the page each bookmark points to.
  3. Add bookmarks, nest them with the indent buttons, and move them with the arrows.
  4. Press Save and download.

Bookmarks open at the top of their page. Tick the option to show the bookmarks panel and most readers will display the list as soon as the file opens.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Bookmarks are read and written inside this browser tab. The file never leaves your device.

What are PDF bookmarks?

Bookmarks, also called the outline, are the clickable table of contents that most PDF readers show in a side panel. Each one jumps to a page.

Can I nest bookmarks under chapters?

Yes. Use the indent button to tuck a bookmark under the one above it, or the add sub-bookmark button on a chapter. You can go five levels deep.

Is there a faster way than adding them one by one?

Open "Paste a table of contents", paste one line per bookmark with the page number at the end, and indent with a tab or two spaces to nest. All of them are added at once.

Do existing bookmarks stay?

They load into the list so you can rename, move, or delete them. When you save, the PDF gets exactly the list you see.
