How to convert audio

  1. Drop an audio or video file onto the box or choose one from your device.
  2. Pick the format you want: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, or M4A.
  3. For MP3, OGG, and M4A choose a bitrate. Higher means better sound and a bigger file.
  4. Press Convert and download the result.

MP3 plays everywhere. M4A (AAC) is a little smaller at the same quality. WAV and FLAC keep every detail of the source, and FLAC files are about half the size of WAV.

Questions

Are my audio files uploaded?

No. Decoding and encoding happen inside this browser tab. Your files never leave your device.

Can I get the sound out of a video?

Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV, WebM, or MKV file and pick MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, or FLAC. Only the audio is kept. If the video already holds AAC audio and you pick M4A with "Keep source quality", the sound is copied without any loss.

Which bitrate should I choose?

192 kbps sounds good for most music and 128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts. 256 or 320 kbps is for careful listening. WAV and FLAC are lossless, so they have no bitrate. Converting a lossy file such as MP3 to FLAC or WAV does not bring back lost detail.

Which formats does it support?

It reads MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus, FLAC, M4A, AAC, and the sound in MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV videos. It writes MP3, WAV, OGG (Opus), FLAC, and M4A (AAC). Files that use DRM or old codecs such as WMA are not supported.

Why does it say my browser is missing a feature?

The converter uses WebCodecs, which current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari include. Older browsers do not have it, so update your browser and reload the page.
