How to trim audio

  1. Drop an audio file onto the box or choose one from your device. The waveform appears in a moment.
  2. Drag the two handles to mark the start and the end of the clip, or type exact times. With the keyboard, focus a handle and use the arrow keys.
  3. Press "Play selection" to listen. Add a fade in or fade out if you like.
  4. Choose a format, press Cut audio, and download the clip.

The louder parts of the sound make taller bars. Click anywhere on the waveform to move the play position there, then press "Start here" or "End here" to set a handle.

Questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The file is decoded, drawn, and cut inside this browser tab. It never leaves your device.

Can I make a ringtone with it?

Yes. Pick the loudest 20 to 30 seconds of a song, add a short fade in and fade out so it does not start or stop abruptly, and save it as MP3 or M4A. Android phones accept MP3. iPhones use M4A files renamed to .m4r, which you can do after downloading.

Which formats can I open and save?

It opens MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus, FLAC, M4A, and AAC files. You can save the cut in the original format, or as WAV, MP3, or M4A.

Does cutting lower the sound quality?

Not when you keep the original format with Automatic quality and no fades: the sound is copied as it is. Fades, or saving as a different lossy format, re-encode the audio. WAV never loses quality.

Why does it say my browser is missing a feature?

Cutting uses WebCodecs, which current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari include. Older browsers do not have it, so update your browser and reload the page.
