How to trim a video

  1. Drop a video onto the box or choose one from your device.
  2. Drag the two handles on the bar to mark where the clip starts and ends, or type exact times. You can also play the video and press "Start here" or "End here".
  3. Use "Play selection" to check the clip, then choose a fast or an exact cut.
  4. Press Cut video and download the result.

Times are written minutes:seconds, for example 1:23.5. To change the format as well as the length, trim first and then use the Video Converter.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is played and cut inside this browser tab. It never leaves your device.

What is the difference between a fast cut and an exact cut?

A fast cut copies the video as it is, without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and loses no quality. Video can only be copied from a keyframe: in MP4 and MOV files players still start at your time, but a WebM or MKV clip begins at the keyframe before it, up to a few seconds early. An exact cut re-encodes the video so it begins on the exact frame, which takes longer.

Which video formats can I trim?

MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV. The clip is saved in the same format as the original, or as MP4 for other formats. If your browser cannot play a file in the preview you can still cut it by typing the times.

Can I remove the sound?

Yes. Switch on "Remove the sound" and the clip is saved without audio.

Why does it say my browser is missing a feature?

Cutting uses WebCodecs, which current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari include. Older browsers do not have it, so update your browser and reload the page.
