How to make a Markdown table
- Type into the grid, or paste cells copied from Excel or Google Sheets. The first row becomes the table header.
- Add or remove rows and columns, and choose left, center, or right alignment for each column.
- Choose Markdown, HTML, or CSV, then copy the result or download it as a file.
Already have a table? Open "Import from text" and paste CSV, tab-separated data, or an existing Markdown table to edit it. With "Align columns with spaces" on, the Markdown source stays readable in your editor as well as in the rendered page.
Questions
Is my table data uploaded?
No. The table is built and converted in your browser. Nothing you type or paste is sent anywhere.
How do I paste from Excel or Google Sheets?
Copy the cells in your spreadsheet, click any cell in the grid, and paste. Spreadsheets copy tab-separated text, and the grid fills in rows and columns from where you pasted. You can also use "Import from text" for CSV or an existing Markdown table.
How do I align columns in a Markdown table?
Markdown uses colons in the separator row: :--- for left, :---: for center, and ---: for right. Use the alignment buttons above each column and the tool writes the colons for you.
What happens to pipes and line breaks in a cell?
A pipe character would end the cell, so it is written as \|. Line breaks inside a cell become <br>, which GitHub and most Markdown renderers display as a new line.
