How to use the online notepad

  1. Start typing in the box. Your note is saved on this device a moment after you stop.
  2. Press New note for another one, rename it with the Note name field, and switch between notes in the list.
  3. Download a note as .txt or .md, or switch on Markdown preview to see it formatted.

Open the page in two tabs and a change in one shows up in the other. If you delete a note by mistake, press Undo straight away.

Questions

Are my notes uploaded or stored on a server?

No. Notes are saved only in your browser’s local storage on this device. We never receive them, and there is no account to sign in to.

When could I lose my notes?

Clearing your browser’s site data, using a private window, or switching to another browser or device means your notes are not there. Download important notes as .txt or .md files to keep a copy.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, nothing needs the internet: you can keep typing and your notes are still saved. The page itself must be loaded once, so keep the tab open if you expect to lose your connection.

How do I bring back a note I deleted?

Press Undo in the message that appears for about ten seconds after you delete a note. After that the note is gone for good, because nothing is kept anywhere else.

What does the Markdown preview do?

It shows your note formatted as Markdown: headings with #, lists with - or 1., bold with **double stars**, links, quotes, code, and tables. Your note stays plain text; the preview is only a view.
