How to convert a PDF table to Excel or CSV

  1. Choose a PDF that has selectable text, such as an invoice, a statement, or a report.
  2. Look at the page preview. The blue lines are the detected column breaks. Drag them, add more, or delete the ones you do not need.
  3. Check the table next to the preview. Move through the pages to confirm they look right.
  4. Download Excel, CSV, or JSON. You can export all pages or a range.

This works on text-based PDFs. For a scanned page, make the text searchable first with the OCR tool. If you only need the words without a table, use PDF to Text.

Questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is read and the Excel, CSV, or JSON file is built inside this browser tab. Your PDF never leaves your device.

Why does it say no text was found?

The PDF is probably a scan, which is a picture of a page with no text inside. Run it through the OCR tool first to add real text, then open the result here.

The columns are wrong. What can I do?

Drag the blue column lines on the page preview, click the page to add a line, or select a line and press Delete. Lowering the column gap finds more columns, raising it finds fewer. Use the checkbox to apply your lines to every page.

Does it keep merged cells, borders, and colors?

No. It reads text and its position, then splits it into rows and columns. You get plain values, which is what you want for sorting, formulas, and imports.

Which format should I pick?

Excel (.xlsx) opens directly in Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets. CSV works with almost every tool and database. JSON is for developers and scripts.
