How to clean up a list of lines
- Paste your text on the left, with one item on each line.
- Switch the options on or off. The result on the right updates as you click, and the line counts show how much was removed.
- Copy the result or download it as a .txt file. Use “Use result as input” to keep working on the cleaned text.
Typical jobs: remove duplicate emails from a list, sort names alphabetically, strip stray spaces after pasting from a PDF, number the steps of a checklist, or join lines into a single comma-separated row. Everything works on whole lines, so the text inside a line is only changed by the space options.
Questions
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Every line is cleaned by your browser on your own device, so lists of emails, names, or log lines never leave your computer.
In what order are the options applied?
Top to bottom: trim, collapse spaces, remove empty lines, remove duplicates, then sort. After that the prefix and suffix are added, lines are numbered, and finally the lines are joined if you asked for that.
What does natural sort do?
It compares numbers inside text by their value, so file2.txt comes before file10.txt. A plain A to Z sort puts file10.txt first because the character 1 comes before 2.
Which copy of a duplicate is kept?
The first one stays, and later copies are removed. With “Ignore upper and lower case” on, Apple and apple count as the same line and the first spelling is kept.
How do I turn a list into one comma-separated line?
Turn on “Remove line breaks”, type a comma and a space between the lines, and copy the result. Add a prefix and suffix such as quote marks first if each item needs quoting.
