How to crop a video

  1. Drop a video on the box. A preview with a crop box appears.
  2. Drag the box to move it and drag its corners to resize it, or pick a shape such as 1:1, 9:16, 16:9, or 4:5.
  3. For exact results, type the left, top, width, and height in pixels. With the box selected, the arrow keys move it and Alt with the arrow keys resizes it.
  4. Press Crop and save video, then download the result.

The crop uses the picture as it plays, so a phone video filmed sideways is cropped the way you see it in the preview. Long, high-resolution videos take a while to encode; the progress bar shows how far along it is.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read, cropped, and saved inside this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does cropping lower the quality?

The video has to be encoded again, because the picture itself changes size. The tool uses a high quality setting, so the loss is small. Cropping away part of the picture does not make the kept part blurrier.

How do I crop a video to a square or to vertical 9:16?

Press 1:1 or 9:16 under Shape. The box snaps to that shape and stays locked to it while you drag a corner. Drag the middle of the box to choose which part of the picture to keep.

Why are the saved width and height always even numbers?

H.264 and most other video formats store pictures in blocks of two pixels, so an odd size is rounded down by one pixel. You will not see the difference.

Which formats can I crop?

You can open MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV files that your browser can play, and save the result as MP4 or WebM. Sound is kept unless you uncheck it.
