How to add a header and footer to a PDF
- Choose a PDF.
- Type text in any of the six boxes: header or footer, left, center, or right. Use tokens such as {page} for the page number.
- Set the font, size, color, and margins, and choose which pages get the text.
- Check the live preview, then press Add and download.
Only need page numbers? Add Page Numbers is simpler. To stamp a diagonal word across the page, useWatermark PDF.
Questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The text is added inside this browser tab. Your PDF never leaves your device.
Which tokens can I use?
{page} is the page number, {pages} the total number of pages, {date} today’s date, and {filename} the name of the file without .pdf. For example, "Page {page} of {pages}".
Can I skip the cover page or number from a later page?
Yes. Tick "Skip the first page", or choose a page range. "First page number" shifts {page}, so a document that starts at page 3 can show 3 on its first page.
Why did some letters turn into question marks?
The header and footer use the standard PDF fonts, which cover Western European letters and common symbols. Characters outside that set, such as Cyrillic or Chinese, are replaced with a question mark.
