Rotate & Flip Video

Rotate a video 90, 180, or 270 degrees or flip it. MP4 and MOV rotate instantly with no re-encoding; other formats are re-encoded. Nothing is uploaded.

How to rotate or flip a video

  1. Drop a video on the box. A preview appears.
  2. Press Rotate left, Rotate right, Rotate 180, or a Flip button until the preview looks right.
  3. Choose Instant to only change the rotation flag, or Re-encode if you need it to work in every player.
  4. Press Save rotated video and download the result.

Phone videos filmed sideways are the most common case: rotate by 90 degrees and use Instant mode, and the fix takes seconds.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and written inside this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

What is the difference between instant and re-encode?

Instant mode changes a rotation flag in the file and copies the video as it is, so it takes seconds and loses no quality. Re-encode turns every frame and compresses it again, which is slower and loses a tiny amount of quality, but the result is upright in every player.

Why is my video sideways after rotating?

Some old players and editors ignore the rotation flag that instant mode sets. Save again with Re-encode and the picture itself is turned, which works everywhere.

Which formats are supported?

You can open MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV files that your browser can play. The result keeps the same container, or becomes MP4 for other types. WebM cannot store a rotation flag, so it is always re-encoded.

Can I flip a video as well as rotate it?

Yes. Flip horizontal mirrors left and right, and flip vertical swaps top and bottom. You can combine them with any rotation; the preview shows the result before you save.
