Level meter

Why is there an ad? This tool is free and runs on your device. One small ad pays for hosting and new tools. No pop-ups, no autoplay, never inside the tool. How we make money

How to record your voice

  1. Press Start recording and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  2. Speak while you watch the level meter. If the bar stays empty, check your microphone.
  3. Use Pause and Resume as needed, then press Stop.
  4. Play the recording back, choose WebM, MP3, or WAV, and download it.

"Reduce background noise and echo" switches on the browser's built-in voice processing. Turn it off for music or instruments, where it can make the sound thinner.

Questions

Is my recording uploaded?

No. The sound is recorded and stored inside this browser tab. It is never sent to a server, and it disappears when you close or reload the page unless you download it.

Why does my browser ask for the microphone?

Browsers always ask before a page may use the microphone. Press Allow in the box that appears. If you pressed Block by mistake, click the lock icon next to the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, and try again.

Which format should I save?

WebM (Opus) is the smallest and keeps the original recording untouched. MP3 plays everywhere. WAV is uncompressed and large, but best for editing. Safari records M4A instead of WebM.

Is there a time limit?

There is no limit in the tool. The recording is held in memory, so very long sessions of several hours may run into your device limits. Download long recordings in parts.

The level meter does not move. What now?

Your browser may be using a different microphone than the one you are speaking into. Check the input device in your system sound settings, make sure the microphone is not muted, and try again.
